Two men have been rushed to hospital after being attacked in their north Belfast home by a gang armed with hammers, crow bars and a machete.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) rushed to the scene after receiving a report shortly after 9.40pm on Friday evening that a number of masked men entered a house in Ambleside Street.

The gang assaulted two male occupants with hammers, crow bars and a machete. The property was also damaged in the attack.

Both men were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for treatment for cuts and bruising.

The attackers are believed to have made off in the direction of Upper Charleville Street following the incident.

Police said enquiries into the aggravated burglary are ongoing and detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious, or who has any information, including CCTV, dash-cam or other footage, to contact them at Musgrave on 101, quoting reference 1762 01/05/26.
