I’m with actor Richard Flood in a rehearsal space at the Gate Theatre, far from the glamour of the auditorium. Although the room is harshly lit, and we sit opposite each other on plastic chairs, any initial awkwardness dissolves once we start talking.
When he leans back and puts his arms behind his head, I notice a large blue and yellow cuff around his wrist and wonder whether it’s a fitness device I haven’t yet heard of. I look closer and see that it’s a Simpsons watch.
