Locals have spoken of their shock at a ‘horrific’ daytime assault in the middle of the Twin Towns last week
On Saturday, April 25, a man was attacked outside a house just off Stranorlar’s Main Street at around 10am.
Several witnesses, who did not wish to be named, told Donegal Daily the injured party was repeatedly hit over the head with a flower pot on his own doorstop.
The alleged assailant, a local man who is well-known to Gardaí, followed the injured man to the main street where he continued to attack him. The victim subsequently sought refuge in a local business premises and an ambulance and Gardaí were called. The man was rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital where he was treated for head wounds. He spent four days in hospital before being released.
One witness claimed the alleged attacker is still ‘walking the streets.’
“I couldn’t believe my eyes that this was happening in the middle of our town on a Saturday morning,” they said.
“This was a horrific attack and the poor man was bleedingly heavily, I thought he was going to be killed. The attacker is still walking the streets, even though the guards were on the scene, I just don’t understand it.”
Another said the incident occurred as locals were returning from Mass in the local chapel.

“This simply should not be happening, day or night. The guards need to take action.”
When contacted, a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office told Donegal Daily they had “no reports listed” in relation any assault.
