EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Today kicks off National Nurses Week, a time to recognize and appreciate the dedicated healthcare professionals in our communities.
One Evansville nurse, whose career spans seven decades, is reflecting on her journey.
Ann Anderson started at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1956 and never stopped.
From the ICU, to surgery, and the emergency room, Anderson has worked in nearly every department.
Anderson even took her talents around the globe – participating in pivotal medical mission trips to Jamaica.

“I’m very very fortunate and I don’t know a lot of people who are able to work when they get old and maybe they don’t want to, but I’m grateful I can do that,” Ann says. “I’ve worked a lot of places and you know I’ve had different experiences where I work and so i just feel like I’m enjoying most of it.”

Ascension leaders say Anderson’s story is a testament to the evolution of modern medicine.
She continues to serve patients and mentor the next generation of caregivers, including two of her own daughters who followed her into the nursing profession.
