Fenian was released this month

Irish language rappers Kneecap have released their third album, Fenian – and are coming to Cork to promote the launch.

The trio announced two gigs on social media today, as they prepare to perform at the recently reopened Savoy on Patrick Street on Tuesday, May 26. The group said: “For the first time in many years we return to the capital of the planet on May 26. This is our FINAL intimate gig for Fenian for ye Cork feens.

“We will play two shows (6.30pm & 9pm) and tickets are ONSALE now and be gone in minutes.” Tickets are available via EventBrite, with the page temporarily crashing earlier this evening as fans clamoured for a spot.

The latest album follows wave after wave of controversy for the Belfast trio. Earlier this year, British prime minister Keir Starmer branded the group “completely intolerable” – a plaudit that members Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí were proud to display on the posters for Fenian .

Starmer’s comments came after the CPS lost an appeal against the throwing out of a case against group member Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara. He had been accused of displaying a flag in support of proscribed terror organisation Hezbollah at a gig at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, on November 21 2024.

The group is well-known for its pro-Palestine stance, Last year the rappers paid a visit to Cork’s famous Palestinian Izz Cafe during a visit to Leeside.

Asked for his opinion during a visit to Belfast in March, Starmer said: “My views on Kneecap are very well known in relation to what they stand for, and what they say, which is completely intolerable. I think the CPS were obviously subject to the High Court decision and they will be looking at the judgment very carefully.”

Unfortunately for Starmer, his condemnation backfired, with his comment ending up on promotional posters for the new album.

The gig is a huge get for the Savoy, which reopened its doors as a live venue earlier this year.
