Melanie Chisholm – aka Sporty Spice or Mel C – is talking about a “wave of love and emotion” she experienced walking out to more than 74,000 Spice Girls fans in Croke Park in late May 2019. “Our Irish fans have always been so loyal,” she explains from London. “What an amazing reception they gave us that night.”
That Dublin performance was the Spice Girls’ first live show since the 2012 Olympic Games in London, when all five original members played at the closing ceremony. Posh Spice sat out the Spice World tour in 2019. But Scary, Baby, Ginger and Sporty played to more than 700,000 fans, in 13 sold-out stadium shows, which generated an estimated £63m in revenue.
