Gardaí are waiting on the results of a forensic examination taken from the scene of a fatal weekend house fire in Cavan town that claimed the life of a man in his 30s before deciding the investigation’s next course.
Detectives launched the probe in the wake of a blaze that engulfed a residential property in the Drumgola Woods area of the county town on Saturday morning.
Gardaí and emergency services raced to the scene shortly before midday but were unable to save the young man who was pronounced dead a short time later.
The man’s body was subsequently taken to a local mortuary for the purposes of a postmortem examination.
Specialist forensic officers have since carried out a thorough technical examination of the scene in a bid to establish the cause of the blaze.
The results of those inquiries are expected to shape a large part of a garda investigation which is now in full train.
“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal house fire at a residential property in Drumgola Wood, Co.Cavan on Saturday 9th May 2026,” said a garda spokesperson.
“The alarm was raised at approximately 11:55am. A man, aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The body of the deceased has been removed from the scene to Cavan Mortuary where a postmortem will take place in due course.
“The scene was preserved and a technical examination has taken place.”
Gardaí have also revealed notification of the incident has been passed onto the local coroner with investigations described as being “ongoing”.
