A major 90s TV star has delighted a Galway pub with a visit this week as staff said they were “so excited” to have the actor dine with them.
American actor Dan Lauria, who played the patriarch Jack Arnold on the 1990s series The Wonder Years, was in McSwiggans Steakhouse in Woodquay over the weekend.
The star is currently in the city to perform his play Just Another Day alongside his wife Patty at University of Galway.
McSwiggans staff were starstruck by the visit on Sunday, May 10 and shared snaps of their bar manager Darren posing with Dan.
They said: “Guess who?! Ah the memories for this one. Here is our bar manager Darren with Dan Lauria from The Wonder Years.
“The show ran for 115 episodes, winning multiple Emmy Awards and an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in its first season. We were so excited to have Dan and his wife Patty in McSwiggans and they are in Galway to perform at 12.30pm on Tuesday at University of Galway.”
The play will see Dan and Patty playing senior performing arts professionals now located at a facility for dementia, where they meet afresh every day at a bench.
The actors are donating their services to present this moving play for Arts in Action at the University of Galway to raise awareness of the challenges of aging in society.
Students, theatre professionals, medical practitioners, educators and the public will be attending these three no-fee performances and dialoguing with leaders in the aging field in Ireland.
The Arts in Action Programme is part of the Institute for Creativity and is also supported by the College of Arts Social Sciences and Celtic Studies, University of Galway.
