Eye doctors will apply for judicial review and try to quash legislation

The Department of Social Protection is being targeted with what could be a more than €100m damages claim by independent optometrists, who are challenging the amount the Government pays them for performing eye-tests under the Treatment Benefit Scheme.
The Association of Optometrists Ireland, trading as Optometry Ireland, is also hoping to quash the law that now governs the scheme by way of a judicial review. It’s being represented in its action by Dublin-based Fenecas Law.
