We start with the Group 3 Aston Park Stakes for older horses over 1m4f. Current favourite KALPANA only won once last season – when coming good at Ascot in October – but she’s a class act, and conditions are ideal to make a winning return.

West Wind Blows is fighting fit, but has been hiked up to 118/117 for an effort in Meydan, and I don’t think he’s that good. Liberty Lane is bang in the mix but a doubtful stayer. In turn, Kalpana should be too good for Andrew Balding and Colin Keane.

Here’s a handicap for older horses over 1m. I’ve no doubt TWISTING PHYSICS is better than an 85-rated horse, and he was a real eye catcher on seasonal return when sixth behind Rathgar in a handicap over 1m2f at Newbury last month. This trip and a stronger pace will be right up his street, and provided he hasn’t regressed for the run, I’d expect a very strong show. Jamie Spencer rides for Oli Cole.

Now for the Listed Fillies’ Trial Stakes for 3yo over 1m2f. ALLAIRE won’t be favourite – and there are question marks for me on the market leaders. Admittedly, the selection here hasn’t won yet, but she showed plenty on her first outing of the season when finishing second to I’m The One. I suspect she will improve bundles for that effort. She was a promising second on her debut as well, and at this stage, this trip looks perfect, as she will stay a mile and a half in time. Andrew Balding trains with Oisin Murphy riding.

The big one of the day in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes over 1m. DAMYSUS has come of age, having been dropped in trip in his last three starts, and the former Derby also-ran can take this for James Doyle and John & Thady Gosden. The flashy son of Frankel was second in the Dante this time last year, before heading to Epsom and finishing last, but he’s found his way now, and I like the fact he’s a strong stayer at this distance.

I’m not sure the same can be said of the other leading contenders. I’d imagine Doyle will sit just behind the lead and kick on, and say “try and catch me” to those with a turn of speed.

A handicap for older horses over 7f. SON looked promising once for Richard Hannon but has found a decent level over 7f this term for Tim Easterby, and he has every chance of hitting a place here off 83. He’s been second at Thirsk off 81 and second at Haydock off 82 this term, and while 83 is another step up, it’s worth remembering that he was once rated 106 after a fifth in the Royal Lodge.

This is the Listed Carnarvon Stakes for 3yo over 6f, and I think it’s time to give ALBERT EINSTEIN one last chance, as he goes sprinting for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. Though a flop on his seasonal debut, the one-time 2000 Guineas favourite was then a fair third in the Greenham here. If he’s got some proper talent in him, he simply has to win here, especially with Royal Ascot only a month away.

Another handicap, this time for older horses over 6f. EXPERT AGENT is high in the handicap now, after a good time on the all-weather and a decent second at Windsor. However, he’s raging fit and will be held up for a late thrust, and so is another with a huge chance of hitting the frame in a tight event. Marco Ghiani rides for Stuart Williams.

This is a big betting event in the London Gold Cup Handicap for 3yo over 1m2f, and LOST BOYS must have every chance for my favourite Frenchman, David Menuisier, who had a nice winner at York in the week.

The Night of Thunder offspring has been progressive all his career, and stepped up to this trip at Sandown last time, memorably romping home in a handicap at this trip. He’s up in class now – and up 6lb – but must still play a part under Jason Watson. He ran green at Sandown and is a decent type who should improve.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
