Lidl NI issues final call for Derry Green Fund entries

Lidl Northern Ireland has issued a final call for entries from across County Derry for the 2026 Lidl Green Fund, which is open to community groups, schools and charities for the chance to secure a share of £25,000 in funding.

With less than one week remaining until the May 18th closing date for applications, the retailer is urging local environmental champions to submit their projects to help safeguard Northern Ireland’s natural heritage.

The initiative – launched with the support of radio presenter and nature enthusiast, Paulo Ross – aims to support grassroots projects that tackle climate change, promote biodiversity and encourage more sustainable ways of living.

Following the success of last year’s programme – which saw St. Patrick’s & St. Joseph’s Primary School win a £4,200 share of the fund to develop a new biodiversity trail – Lidl Northern Ireland are calling on local groups to share their concepts and ideas for how they are protecting the environment and promoting sustainability in their communities.

The urgency of the fund comes at a critical time for the environment on the island of Ireland. Recent climate data confirms that Europe is the fastest-heating continent in the world, warming at twice the global average rate, and following the warmest summer on record, the need to build resilient ecosystems and protect local flora and fauna has never been more pressing.

Highlighting the submission deadline of Monday 18th May, Elaine O’Connor, Head of Sustainability at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland, commented:

“We have seen an incredible response from Northern Ireland schools, community groups and charities since opening the Green Fund, but we know there are still so many fantastic local projects out there that just need a financial boost to make a real difference.

With the application window closing in a matter of days, I urge any group with a vision for a greener community to get their entry in now. Whether it’s a biodiversity garden or a waste-reduction initiative, we want to help you bring those sustainable dreams to life.”

Projects should align with key environmental themes, including climate and biodiversity, circular economy and waste reduction, and sustainable living.
