Judge says Limerick man convicted of assault has a "short fuse" - Ireland News Beep

A MAN who was charged with a Section 2 assault has been described by a district court judge as having a “quick temper” and a “short fuse.”

Henry Blackwell with an address at Lismakeera, Askeaton, appeared before Kilmallock District Court.

A probation report, which Judge Patricia Harney described as being “quite concerning” was handed into the court.

Solicitor John Lynch told the court that his client has “distanced himself” from his family and has not come to adverse garda attention since the offence.

Judge Harney said: “This is not his first rodeo – I have concerns.”

She added: “He seems to have a quick temper. This is a gentleman with a short fuse.”

Mr Lynch described his client as a hard-working man, who is working two jobs in farming and contracting.

He told the court that Mr Blackwell is 45-years-old and has five children.

The court heard that Mr Blackwell has 28 previous convictions – most of which were for road traffic offences with one previous conviction for a Section 2 assault.

The judge said that the previous assault conviction left her with “a certain impression.”

Judge Harney convicted the man for the Section 2 assault and sentenced him to two months in prison and this was suspended for 18 months.

The defendant was released on his own bond of €100 on the condition that he keep the peace, be of good behaviour for the next year and a half and he is to have no contact in any way with the injured party.
