Enthusiasts of detective dramas are set for a real treat, as a critically acclaimed crime series partly filmed in Kent can now be watched completely free of charge. The programme is adapted from novels by Lynda La Plante and originally broadcast on ITV in 2009, running until 2012 across four series.
The detective programme, which sits amongst numerous others on the platform, centres on DC Anna Travis, a novice detective joining a male-dominated police force.
Eager to demonstrate her capabilities, she works to unravel a string of horrific murders committed by an unidentified serial killer. Above Suspicion is the programme in question, and it features Yellowstone and Dutton Ranch star Kelly Reilly as Anna Travis.
Ciarán Hinds also heads up the cast in the show, which can be streamed without charge on ITVX. The drama attracted impressive initial viewing figures, with nearly seven million people watching when it debuted.

Actress Reilly told LifeofWylie of her character: “Anna is very one-track minded. When she gets a sniff of something, she won’t let it go. She’s driven by her instincts and emotions.”
Season two, titled ‘The Red Dahlia’, was filmed in Westgate-on-Sea in Thanet and the promenade features in various flashback sequences which see Louise Pennel (Ty Glaser) looking out to sea.
The exterior of St Cecelia’s House on Sea Road doubled as the exterior of Mrs Pennel’s (Hildegard Neil) home, and the interior was filmed at West Bay House.
Viewers flocked to IMDb reviews to express their opinions on the series and the star’s outstanding performance, with one declaring the show “in a league of its own.”
They added: ” It’s a cracking police procedural, driven by the sensational chemistry between its talented leads and the tight, exciting stories, never letting up until the heart-wrenching denouement in the final episode.”

Another viewer described it as “one of the best”, elaborating: “VERY well made. Nice twists, not too predictable. Suspense… And the attraction between Langton and Travis… Love this! Too bad there were only four seasons.”
A third enthusiast declared it was “above reproach”, commenting: “Kelly Reilly and Ciarán Hinds do top-notch performances in an exceptionally good storyline, which is why I highly recommend this serial killer thriller.”
Over on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, a further fan wrote: “The British just do this genre well and Above Suspicion is no exception. Kelly Reilly is outstanding in her lead role and she is surrounded by a superb supporting cast.”
Actress Reilly has previously expressed her hopes for further adaptations of Above Suspicion, with News24 reporting her as saying: “In Above Suspicion, I get to work with the nicest group of people I’ve ever worked with.
“There is a nice juxtaposition because we have a lot of fun, although we are dealing with quite dark subject matters. It’s lovely to work with a group of people that make you laugh and smile.”
