Over €12,000 has already been raised for Breast Cancer Ireland
Though thousands of miles separate them, five siblings from Limerick have united for a massive physical challenge this May to honour their mother, Liz, and raise vital funds for breast cancer research.
Lee, Taylor, Tara, Hayley, and Kacie are running the pavements of London, New York City, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, each aiming to complete 100km over the course of the month.
The “500k Around the World” challenge has already raised over €12,000 for Breast Cancer Ireland.
In a mission statement on GoFundMe, they said, “Our mom faced breast cancer with incredible strength. She was first diagnosed in 2015 and again in 2016, and fought both battles with resilience and determination.”
“Sadly, her most recent illness was very different. It progressed quickly, with symptoms that were difficult to recognise early, and we lost her after a short and incredibly tough battle.”
“Through this experience, we’ve seen just how important awareness, early detection, and continued research are. In her memory, we are raising funds for Breast Cancer Ireland to support vital work in understanding symptoms, improving early diagnosis, and helping others get the best possible chance at treatment.”
“Our mom was so proud of the lives we built for ourselves in London, New York, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In her memory, each of her 5 children is running 100km in each of these cities.”
“Thank you for helping us honour our mom’s memory and support a cause that means so much to us.”
While the physical toll of 100km each in the May heat of the Middle East and the busy streets of New York is high, the memory of their mother’s resilience keeps them moving.
The family is encouraging people to support the cause, whether through a donation or simply by sharing their story to raise awareness of breast cancer symptoms.
