An Inishowen Councillor, Jack Murray, has hit out at the British PM following the mandatory introduction of “Brit Cards”.
A Brit Card is a form of Digital ID, which is the UK government’s attempt to tackle illegal immigration, with the new ID being a form of proof of a citizen’s right to reside and work.
Murray believes that people in the North of Ireland shouldn’t have to carry the ID and it will be met with opposition.
“Truly astonishing that Keir Starmer could expect Irish people, living in the north of Ireland, to carry a ‘Brit Pass’ to prove their right to work there,” Jack Murray said. “It will rightly be met with widespread resistance. That is without doubt. Irish people have a right to be in Ireland. Unlike the British Government.
“As James Connolly said over a century ago, “The British Government has no right in Ireland, never had any right in Ireland, and never can have any right in Ireland.”
“Starmer could soon learn that many of the solutions to his post-Brexit problems is to withdraw from this island and leave us all to our own affairs.”
