International success for Limerick teenager's invention which predicts the risk of an asthma attack - Ireland News Beep

A MONAGEA teenager is celebrating after triumphing in a competition aimed at discovering new technology innovations.
Nell McMahon, 16, was named a winner in the sixth annual Solve for Tomorrow competition.
Sponsored by technology giant Samsung, it aims to uncover promising technology innovations from young people based in Ireland and Britain.
Students in the competition are asked to come up with ideas which tackle real-world issues.
The prize on offer is Samsung gear for their school and the chance to undertake work experience at the firm.

And Nell succeeded after she was introduced to the competition by her teacher at Desmond College in Newcastle West.
Named AsthmaSense, her product is an early-warning system that predicts the risk of an asthma attack by monitoring local air quality.
Asthma is a common lung condition that affects your ability to breathe.
The device is linked to a smartphone app and alerts users so they can take swift action before an attack develops.
In comments reported by the Irish Times, Nell said: “It’s a smart, portable device that measures air quality and alerts asthmatics of any potential triggers for asthma attacks.
“It monitors carbon-based airborne chemicals, and high levels of these can be very dangerous for asthmatics to inhale, so it sets off an alarm if levels are unsafe.”
Now, the 16-year-old plans to take the product into the market.
As part of the contest, which took place in London, teams took part in a programme of design thinking, market research and a physical prototyping workshop.
They also received mentoring, support and guidance from Samsung staff to help bring their ideas to life.
