People will feel like they have been transported to a Mediterranean destination this weekend as soaring temperatures are set to hit above 20C across the country

Residents in parts of Ireland will feel like they’ve been whisked away to the Mediterranean this weekend as above-average temperatures blanket the nation.
Fresh weather maps from WXCharts.com display deep crimson shading across portions of the country on Saturday, indicating temperatures comfortably surpassing 20C. While Irish temperatures will climb above the typical May readings, those jetting off to certain regions of Spain and Portugal this weekend should brace themselves for the thermometer hitting a near-scorching 40°C, reports the Irish Mirror.
Alan O’Reill, from Carlow Weather informed his 157,000 X followers that the upcoming weekend would feel noticeably warmer than the norm. “The colder air is pulling away and warmer air is slowly moving towards us with over 20c for weekend and early next week,” said Alan.
“We still have more rain to come tonight and Thursday with some showers on Friday but the weekend and early next week look mainly dry. If you are heading to Spain or Portugal some parts there will see up to 38c,” he added.
In its most recent national weather forecast, Met Eireann confirmed that “temperatures will continue to trend upwards”.
Their full forecast reads:
Overview: Temperatures will continue to trend upwards with warm or very warm conditions. High pressure will bring mostly dry and settled weather too. Sea fog may impinge in some areas however. Friday night: Any remaining showers will clear early on Friday night with dry and overcast conditions to follow. Mist and fog patches may develop, particularly across southeastern counties. Temperatures dropping to between 9 and 12 degrees, with only light southwesterly or variable winds.
Saturday: Dry conditions with pleasant sunny intervals emerging, accompanied by no more than moderate southwesterly winds. Temperatures reaching 17 to 21 degrees generally, although slightly fresher along some coastal areas.
Sunday: Another mild day ahead with periods of sunshine expected. Nevertheless, cloudier conditions will develop in places. Temperatures climbing to between 18 and 22 degrees, with only light southerly or variable winds.
Early next week: High pressure looks set to dominate into early next week, bringing a continuation of the mostly settled spell with warm or very warm air feeding up across the country, on a southeast continental airflow.
