Judge shocked by Limerick man caught with drugs in underwear

A YOUNG man was found with drugs hidden in his underwear at Henry Street garda station.

Jonathon Curtin, 19, of Tara Court, Watergate Flats, Limerick, pleaded guilty to the possession of controlled drugs for unlawful sale or supply contrary to section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Prosecuting Sergeant Aisling O’Neill told Limerick District Court that Jonathon Curtin was travelling in a taxi with men known to the gardaí on July 6, 2025 at Hennessy Avenue, Kileely, Limerick.

Gardaí stopped the vehicle, and conveyed Mr Curtin to the garda station.

Upon a search, drugs were found concealed in his underwear.

Sgt O’Neill outlined that Mr Curtin has no previous convictions.

Barrister-in-Law Joseph McMahon, representing Mr Curtin, detailed that the man is on remand for other matters.

Mr McMahon said his client apologises for the crime, and that the 19-year-old is dealing with underlying issues.

Judge Patricia Harney said “Well, it was in his underwear.”

“I’m very shocked,” she said. “He’s got himself into a lot of trouble.”

The judge proceeded to convict and sentence Mr Curtin to four months’ imprisonment, which she suspended for eighteen months.
