In a life-imitating-art moment, director AR Murugadoss met his Sarkar hero, the recently-turned Chief Minister Vijay and congratulated him for his massive success in the recently-concluded assembly elections. Photos of the meeting have been going viral on social media with many drawing parallels between his on-screen role in the filmmaker’s 2018 political action movie and how real life turned out to be for the actor.
In Sarkar, Sundar (Vijay) plays a powerful corporate figure who returns to Tamil Nadu from the United States to exercise his right to vote in the Assembly elections, only to discover that his vote has already been fraudulently used. Shocked by this, he launches a campaign exposing electoral malpractice and eventually enters the political arena as an independent candidate, all while facing repeated threats to his life and efforts to discredit him. Towards the end of the film, Sundar wins the election, but decides against becoming the CM and instead chooses one of his supporters to take on the post. However, in reality, the actor becomes the elected head of the state government.
