Limerick faces significant traffic disruption ahead of senior hurling match, gardaí say

SERGEANT and Crime Prevention Officer Michelle O’Halloran has warned that there will be significant traffic disruption across Limerick city and its surrounding routes ahead of the Limerick versus Tipperary match on Sunday, May 24.

A number of diversions and road closures will be in place on the Ennis Road, the Shelbourne Road, and the North Circular Road area.

Sergeant O’Halloran stated: “We’re asking drivers to follow Garda directions and diversion signage at all times.”

To beat the expected crowds of up to 25,000 supporters at the TUS Gaelic Grounds, gardaí have advised hurling fans to plan ahead and arrive early.

The sergeant said: “The key main message is to park legally and responsibly. Do not block entrances, footpaths, park on green areas, or ignore restrictions. Vehicles causing obstruction may be ticketed or towed.”

“We’re also encouraging people to consider parking in the city centre and walking to the stadium, it is a much better option and only a 30-minute walk and will save time after the games.”

“If you are driving to the match we would appeal to patrons to keep to the speed limits, never drink and drive, text and drive or phone and drive.”

The Crime Prevention Officer warned that inside the stadium, flares and smoke bombs are strictly prohibited, and individuals who are intoxicated may be refused entry from the match.

“We also remind people not to leave valuables in their cars and to keep an eye on children in large crowds and have a plan with your child to be reunited if you are separated.”

“We hope all those attending have a safe and enjoyable day,” the sergeant stated.
