The Ford Focus in the Sinkhole
One unlucky Cork motorist got the fright of her life when she drove into a giant sinkhole that suddenly opened on the approach to a housing estate in Glanmire yesterday.
The driver of the car said she was “terrified” when her Ford focus hit the sinkhole in Orchard Manor, not too far from Dooley’s Lane, newly reopened after extensive roadworks. Thankfully, she was able to get out safe and sound without the car sinking any further.
A post on the popular Glanmire Noticeboard facebook page showed the front wheels of the car under the surface of the road where clear subsidence has taken place. Local residents are worried that the other areas of the road may be damaged.
Local councillor John Maher says that he spoke to the City council about the sinkhole and works will be carried out today to repair the road. The area is currently cordoned off.

This is far from the first time a sinkhole like this has threatened Cork drivers. Back in October, Corkbeo reported on a huge sinkhole that appeared on the R600 around half a kilometre west of the Pink Elephant restaurant on the Wild Atlantic Way.
