Tributes have poured in for a “gentleman” tragically killed in a farm accident in Waterford over the weekend.

James Doherty, aged in his 50s, sadly lost his life following an incident involving farm machinery on Sunday, May 24.

Gardaí and emergency services were rushed to the scene at a premises in Ballyrobin, Ferrybank, Co Waterford on Sunday after the discovery of James’ body. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death notice on RIP.ie reads: “James passed away on Sunday following a farm accident. Predeceased by his parents Jimmy and May.

“James will be sadly missed by his partner Lorna, brothers John, Eamonn and Pat, sisters Bridget, Eileen, Mairead and Maria, uncle Willie Doherty, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.”

Tributes have poured in from far and wide for James, who was hailed as a “gentleman and always a pleasure to meet”.

One mourner shared: “To Lorna, all of the Doherty family, extended family and friends, very saddened to hear of the death of James. He was great fun and such a gentleman. Sincere condolences. May James Rest in Peace.”

Another penned: “Sincere sympathy to the Doherty and extended families on the sad passing of James . He was a gentleman and always a pleasure to meet. He was a member of the local creamery committee for many years and was highly respected by all sides. He will be sadly missed by all.”

One more added: “Words fail at this sad time, extending our deepest sympathy to all the family, and to Lauren.Rest in the peace you truly deserve now James.”

James’ funeral arrangements will be announced in time.

The Health and Safety Authority have launched an investigation following the tragic incident. A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority told the Irish Mirror: “The Health and Safety Authority is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation. As such no further information is currently available.”
