Thousands of televisions sold throughout Ireland have been subject to an urgent recall due to a potential fire hazard, with households being advised to disconnect them from the mains immediately.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) issued two separate recall notices today covering a range of Toshiba, Technika, Walker and NordMende televisions.
The watchdog confirmed that the problem lies with the fuse inside certain supplied UK power plugs, rather than the televisions themselves.
The CCPC stated: “A safety issue has been identified with the fuse within certain power plugs in various Toshiba, Technika and Walker Televisions, and in a selected batch of NordMende Televisions.

“The product presents a fire risk because the fuse inside the supplied UK power plug may not operate correctly. If an electrical fault occurs, the fuse may fail to disconnect the power supply, allowing electricity to continue flowing into the TV, which could lead to overheating or fire.”, reports the Irish Mirror.
“The product safety issue relates to the mains plug fuse and not to the television unit itself.”
Approximately 6,206 Toshiba, Technika and Walker televisions are thought to have been purchased in Ireland, alongside a further 189 NordMende units.
Owners of any of the affected televisions are being strongly urged to “stop using the product immediately, switch it off, and unplug it from the mains”.
Affected customers will be provided with a complimentary replacement fuse or power cable.

The impacted units were available in numerous shops throughout Ireland. You can view the complete list here.
Customers can verify if their TV is affected by finding the batch number on the rear of the unit.
Anyone affected should contact Glen Dimplex to receive a free replacement fuse or power cable by calling 00353 1 842 8222 or emailing serviceireland@glendimplex.com.
NordMende Televisions
The affected TVs are branded NordMende, with the model number ARTV43UHD and batch/serial numbers from 29321771400001 to 2932177140000189.
The impacted units were available in numerous shops throughout Ireland. You can view the complete list here.
Customers can verify if their unit is affected by checking the serial number on the rating label on the rear of the television.
