Weather shift on the way after 30C highsIreland’s record-breaking heatwave is coming to an end as Met Éireann forecasters are predicting cooler and more unsettled conditions for the Bank Holiday weekend.The country enjoyed glorious temperatures exceeding 30C this week, but hopes for continued fine weather have been dashed.Wednesday’s readings in parts of the midwest and west saw the mercury approach but not quite match the 30.5C measured at Shannon Airport on Tuesday.Thursday will see highs of 24C with patches of light rain, drizzle and mist throughout the day. Friday promises to be largely dry with plenty of sunshine and isolated light showers, reaching 23C – making it looking like the best day for outdoor activities.Saturday will bring heavier rain spreading eastwards from the west, with potential thunderstorms in the north. Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather noted: “Latest rainfall totals up to 4pm Saturday shows very little rain in East but higher amounts near West coast.”Sunday will see a mix of cloud, sun and scattered showers, with cloudier conditions developing from the southwest.Bank Holiday Monday will remain unsettled with showery outbreaks of rain moving eastwards, turning heavy at times with temperatures ranging from 15-20C.
