52 mins: Oh, what a chance for Peter McGrane. Phenomenal kick-pass by Burns sends him straight in on goal but he can’t supply the finish. That could have killed the game.

Half-time: Armagh 1-9 Derry 1-3. A game that started like a freight train has kind of lost its way as the half wore on. The last score came in the 21st minute and both sides have been guilty of some bad misses. Six points is a good lead for Armagh but Derry will have the wind in the second half.

37 mins: Back underway in Arm,agh and we have a score! Finally! Lachlan Murray appears on Shane McGuigan’s shoulder and Derry cut the gap to five. Armagh 1-9 Derry 1-4

34 mins: SAVE AT THE OTHER END! Gareth Murphy slipped when he was shooting and gave Niall Loughlin a chance to carry off the Derry line. Bad misses everywhere you look.

20 mins: WHAT A STRIKE! That’s a stone-cold clinker for Tiernan Kelly. He had an advantage from the referee and took on a hero shot with his left boot. 17 mins: GOAL for Derry! Out of nothing, they’re back in it. Derry pounce Blaine Hughes’s kick-out and Lachlan Murray found himself right in on goal. That’s so careless from Armagh, who were in total control. Armagh 0-6 Derry 1-2

15 mins: Darragh McMullan gets in on it for Armagh, pulling off a nice hip-swivel on the arc to get inside and finish expertly. Derry haven’t scored since the second minute. They need to get one soon. Armagh 0-6 Derry 0-1

11 mins: Armagh are on it here. They shut down a Derry attack, forcing Ethan Doherty into a wild shot. The Ulster champions break out and it eventually ends up with a nice point for Turbitt. Efficient stuff. Armagh 0-5 Derry 0-1

47 mins: But that’s a goal for Cavan! Out of nothing really, they drove down the middle of the Westmeath defence and eventually found Paddy Lynch 12 metres out. The right man had it, the right man finished it. Four in it now. Westmeath 0-16 Cavan 1-9

46 mins: Westmeath are just the more cohesive side here. Cavan got the next point but all it took was for Westmeath to win their own kick-out and they drive down the pitch, ending up in a point for full-back Charlie Drumm. Westmeath 0-16 Cavan 0-9

Half-time: Westmeath 0-12 Cavan 0-6 A good end to the half for the home side, with points from Conor Dillon and Senan Baker. They really rallied down the stretch, outscoring Cavan by 0-7 to 0-1 in the last 12 minutes of the half. Cavan will have the wind in the second half but they’re going to have to show a fair bit more adventure to make any use of it. Outside of the relentless Shehu, they’ve been uninspiring.

Half-time: Meanwhile, in Croke Park, Kerry have hauled themselves right back into it. Evan Boyle’s two-pointer did some of the heavy lifting and their star men Daniel Kirby and Killian Dennehy have thrown into the pot as well. Finely balanced. Tyrone 1-8 Kerry 0-9

9 mins: Cavan are on the board. After Westmeath’s lead is pushed out to three with a lovely one-two from Brandon Kelly, Emmanuel Shehu comtinues his good form from the Monaghan match with a skyscraper at the other end. Westmeath 0-3 Cavan 0-1

The first result of the day filters in from Croke Park. Derry have beaten Kerry in the final of the Christy Ring Cup by 3-24 to 3-19. That’s a long overdue win for Derry, who had lost four of the previous Christy Ring finals, including the last three in a row. That gets them into next year’s Joe McDonagh Cup, making it their first time in the second tier competition. Big result.

On we go with the first round of the All-Ireland Championship. Two matches today – Armagh v Derry later on is a mouthwatering clash between Ulster rivals. But first we have Westmeath, already the story of the summer, taking on Cavan in Mullingar. Throw-in is at five o’clock.

We’ll also be keeping an eye on the All-Ireland under-20 final between Kerry and Tyrone at Croke Park, also getting underway at 5pm. Plenty going on. Sure who needs the Champions League?
