The Coronas have issued a statement in the wake of their guitarist suffering a medical emergency on stage.

On Friday night, the Dublin band – comprising of frontman Danny O’Reilly, bassist Graham Knox and drummer Conor Egan, arrived on stage to play to a sold-out concert at King John’s Castle in Limerick.

But minutes after they greeted the crowds, the gig was halted after guitarist Larry ‘Lar’ Kaye suffered a medical emergency.

Once the emergency was under control, singer Danny returned to the stage to address the crowd, saying ‘it doesn’t feel right’ to continue playing on and cancelled the concert until a later stage in July.

Now in a new statement, the band have updated fans on Lar, saying: ‘Hi guys, thanks for everyone’s understanding and well wishes since last night.

‘Lar is feeling much better today and has been told to rest up for a few days.

‘We wanna just say a special thank you to the first responders who were so quick to help our crew in making sure Lar got the care he needed. We will have news on a rescheduled date as soon as possible.

‘Look after each other! Love, Danny, Knoxy & Conor,’ they added.

The band also confirmed their show at The Social in Donegal will go ahead with musician Cormac Butler replacing Lar on the guitar.

‘Tomorrow night’s show in Donegal will go ahead as planned. With Lar resting up, we will have our good friend and longtime collaborator Cormac Butler on guitar,’ said the band.

On Friday, Danny apologised to fans for the incident.

He told the crowd: ‘Guys, first of all, we really appreciate you being here tonight and hanging around. We want to keep going and do the show, but until we know 100 per cent that Lar is ok, it just doesn’t feel right.

‘We want Lar to be with us when we come back (to play the concert). It is looking like it is going to be July 10 or 11. Hopefully, that suits you guys to come back. We are so sorry about this.’

Event organisers Dolan’s confirmed the Limerick concert is set to be rescheduled, and ticket holders for Friday night’s show will be contacted.

‘Tonight’s performance in King John’s Castle has had to be cancelled due to a member of the band being ill,’ they said.
