Now that we have entered the offseason, it seems likely that Celtic will look to make a quick appointment as they attempt to confirm their new permanent manager.

Martin O’Neill did a brilliant job in the interim role in recent months, leading the side to a domestic double in dramatic fashion. While he would be a popular choice to remain in the role on full-time basis, it would be a big ask for the 74-year old.

It seems that O’Neill is in the running the job, with Robbie Keane his main contender.

The Dubliner recently resigned from his post as Ferencvaros manager, having had two successful seasons in Hungary. It  has been suggested that he will hold discussions with Celtic about the role this week.

Should he get the gig, it seems as though he already has some potential staff in mind.

Robbie Keane eyeing Ireland international for Celtic staff

Robbie Keane will be in a strong position to be appointed as the next Celtic manager, with the club likely to have some concerns about Martin O’Neill’s ability to lead the team forward on a long-term basis.

If that is the case, the former Spurs man may not be the only Ireland international on the staff.

The Daily Record are reporting that Robbie Keane could add ex-Ireland winger Jonny Hayes to his staff at Celtic, as well as Scott Brown.

Hayes and Keane did not play together for Ireland, with the former linking up with the squad towards the end of the latter’s international career. However, they do have some recent history.

Jonny Hayes would travel to Budapest earlier this year as part of his coaching badges, taking in some time at the Ferencvaros training ground. This is what Hayes had to say about the expedition on LinkedIn soon after:

Hayes is currently part of the youth setup at Celtic, meaning he would be natural fit to slot into the senior staff.

Robbie Keane is said to be keen to return to British football this summer, with Celtic looking like the ideal destination.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the coming days, but it seems that the Irishman is in with an excellent shout of landing the job.
