Ireland’s oldest person, Eileen ‘Nell’ Hynes, has died, at the age of 109.
Born on 15 December 1916, Ms Hynes was from Cullenwaine, near Moneygall, in Co Offaly.
She married her husband William in 1939 when she was 23 and they moved to Coolderry.
Ms Hynes had 10 children, born between 1940 and 1958, with the eldest now 85 years of age.
She had 30 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Speaking to RTÉ News on her 109th birthday last December, Ms Hynes credited her long life to “hard work and no smoking and drinking”.
She declined an interview on camera, saying that she did not want the publicity, although she said she was happy to chat about her significant milestone.
In March, Donegal singer Daniel O’Donnell visited Ms Hynes at her home in Coolderry.

When she turned 100, she received the Centenary Bounty, a gift and signed letter from the President of Ireland.
She received a commemorative coin from the president every year since then.
Ms Hynes told RTÉ News in December that she hoped to live to 110, so she could collect her 10th commemorative coin from the president and be able to give one coin to each of her children.
