Ireland rugby head coach Andy Farrell has signed a new contract with the IRFU until after the 2031 Rugby World Cup.

His current deal had been due to expire after next year’s Rugby World Cup.

There had been speculation he would take either the England job or possibly return to Saracens.

He took up the role following Jee Schmidt’s exit in late 2019, having served as a back’s coach since since 2016 – meaning his association with the team will now run for 15 years.

Ireland won two Six Nations championships under Farrell’s leadership, including a Grand Slam in 2023.

“I am incredibly proud to continue this journey with Irish Rugby,” Farrell told the IRFU.

“It is a privilege to work with such a talented group of players and staff, and to represent the supporters whose passion and unwavering support drive this team forward and inspire us every time we take the field.”
