Matt is raring to go for Derby day and likes a bit of Dyonisos in the 15:15.

ITV Racing is back Saturday for Derby Day at Epsom, with the action starting here with the Group 3 Tottenham Corner Stakes for older horses over 7f. There should be plenty of pace on here and most of the big guns all go with plenty of juice in the ground. For me, it sets up best for NEVER SO BRAVE, who progressed all last season and won the Group 1 City of York Stakes in fine style. He gets a mile and can be ridden from off the strong gallop. Although he doesn’t have as much juicy ground form as Alcantor and Ten Bob Tony, who are mudlarks, he won his maiden at Thirsk on soft, so the ground should not be an issue. When he got beaten on soft at Ascot in a handicap one day, it was over 6f and he was ridden up with the pace. Oisin Murphy rides for Andrew Balding.

Now the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes for fillies and mares over an extended 1m. SHES PERFECT has a mighty chance here for Charlie Fellowes and Kieran Shoemark. The filly, famously disqualified from the French 1000 Guineas, goes well in soft ground and should get a lead from another mudlark in Sparks Fly. She’s Perfect returned from injury at Goodwood the other day and ran third, which was not too bad, leaving the impression she needed a more aggressive ride. I’d suspect Shoemark will be right near Sparks Fly or leading in the early stages. Provided she has improved from Goodwood and is back with her favourite rider, she has a huge chance to get a deserved big win.

The Group 1 Coronation Cup over 1m4f. On paper, there should be a right burn up here and CALANDAGAN can make up for his defeat by the re-opposing Jan Brueghel last year. The Japan Cup hero is one of the best horses on the planet and it was his defeat here that meant going forward from Epsom, he was ridden a little closer to the pace. He’s got a wicked turn of foot over this trip and while he’s always liable to be turned over in a tactical race, everything here looks set for a victory. Mickael Barzalona rides for Francis-Henri Graffard.

All about speed here in the Dash Handicap for older sprinters over 5f. A wide-open romp. DYONISOS is currently handicapped on good ground form, but if you look back at his past, he was a lover of soft ground in France. My hope looked a little unlucky at Goodwood last time when coming home well, having failed to secure a clear run. He’s been beaten now off 85 and 84 recently, so it’s hard to say he’s chucked in back to 85, but it’s the soft ground that might allow him to prove better than his mark. David Egan rides for Ian Williams from a good draw.

The big one of the day in the Derby for fillies and colts over 1m4f. I might end up with a pacemaker here, so this might be a bonkers selection, but CHRISTMAS DAY looks massively overpriced to me with the rain that has fallen this week. The Dante third – running on strongly over an extended 10f had previously landed the Ballysax destroying A Boy Named Susie and James J Braddock. He had loads of decent form on soft as a juvenile, including when winning a maiden on heavy and a Group 3 at Leopardstown on good to yielding. Sire Camelot won the Derby and his mother’s sire was Sea the Stars, also a Derby winner. Jockey Ronan Whelan has always been ultra-talented, and Aidan O’Brien is a master in the Derby. Let’s just hope he’s not there to set it up for someone else. A few quid each-way. Has Christmas come early?!

A handicap for horses aged three and over 1m2f. Just an ordinary race, and with the juice in the ground, the one I like is HELL YEAH HE DID, ridden by Hector Crouch for Ralph Beckett. My hope runs as a gelding for the first time and showed he liked the cut last season as a juvenile, scoring in the mud at Nottingham. Stays and a mark of 85 seems fair enough on what we know. He didn’t quite see out 1m2f at Pontefract last season, but he should now.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
