This is the last weekend to use the playground before the works start

One of the most popular playgrounds in Cork is getting a big makeover. Carrigaline Playground will be shut for four weeks this summer as crews undertake a modern refurbishment.
The playground is one of the busiest in the county. With a growing population of around 20,000 residents, the town is the biggest town in Co Cork, with a huge cohort of young families. But in recent years, the play facility has “deteriorated significantly,” the Playground Committee says.
But this weekend will be the last to use the playground before it’s shut for upgrade works. Cork County Council has promised the works will “deliver a modern, enhanced play space for the local community.”
Renovation works on Carrigaline Playground will commence on Monday (15 June) and are expected to take about four weeks. The playground should be back open by mid-July.
The Carrigaline Playground Committee said its members: “couldn’t be happier we are now at the stage for work to begin. This has been a long work in progress, and during this time, the current playground has deteriorated significantly. The much-needed upgrades will have a huge beneficial impact to all users of the playground, creating a safer, modern and more inclusive space.”
Cllr Ben Dalton O’Sullivan, the Chair of the Carrigaline Municipal District, said: “It has been a long journey to reach this point and, on behalf of myself and all the elected members of Carrigaline, we want to recognise and sincerely thank the committee for their voluntary efforts and dedication”
Cllr Dalton said: “The elected members are aware that the timing of the playground closure is not ideal; however, this is unfortunately unavoidable due to contractor timelines. Despite this short-term disruption, the young people of Carrigaline can look forward to enjoying a fantastic new playground in just a few weeks’ time.”
