Dublin advanced into Round Three of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship with a commanding second-half performance seeing them eliminate Cavan at Kingspan Breffni with a 1-24 to 0-16 win.
Despite leading by a single point at half-time, Dublin were clinical and punished a series of Cavan misses including over 10 wides for the Breffni men to see out an 11-point victory.

In a lively opening half, the sides were level on several occasions in an end-to-end contest. Cavan scored through Paddy Lynch, Gerard Smith and Conor Brady, while Dublin kept pace via Cormac Costello, Ciarán Kilkenny and Con O’Callaghan, with Lee Gannon edging the visitors in front at the break.
Cavan’s wastefulness in front of goal proved costly, with a series of wides allowing Dublin to stay in touch before gradually taking control after the restart.
Con O’Callaghan and substitute Ross McGarry led the Dublin charge in the second half as the visitors began to pull clear, with Colm Basquel and Paddy Small also adding scores.

A key moment came when Ciarán Brady was penalised for a foul on Colm Basquel, allowing O’Callaghan to convert a penalty as Dublin’s lead became unassailable.
Despite scores from Emmanuel Shehu, and Tiernan Madden, Cavan were unable to mount a sustained comeback and bow out of the championship, while Dublin progress to Round Three in Monday’s draw.
