The owners hope to reopen after all is resolved

One of Cork’s most popular drive-thru coffee chains has announced the closure of its Midleton location after concerns arose over planning. The closure is effective from today, with owners hoping to reopen once the planning issues have been resolved.
Boxd Coffee opened in the East Cork town at the start of the year, and it was welcomed by locals, with healthy queues frequently forming around the bright yellow drive-thru during peak hours.
The opening in Midleton followed the business’s roaring success across three other locations: Carrigrohane, Ballincollig, and the Bandon Road. The owners emphasised that the decision to close is driven entirely by the planning concerns, as the business has been ‘very well received’ in the town.
Despite the closure, management says they will be doing everything they can to ensure no jobs are lost. However, the situation has led to 15 new roles at the company being put on hold for the time being.
Boxd announced the closure on social media, a spokesperson said: “It is with great disappointment that we at Boxd must announce the closure of our Midleton location due to a planning concern. This will be effective from tomorrow, Monday, 15th June. We do hope this is only a temporary measure.
“This is not a decision we have taken lightly, nor is it one we want to make. Importantly, this closure is not due to a lack of support. The business has been fully viable and incredibly well-received by the people of Midleton, clearly demonstrating the need for facilities such as ours within the town. “While the current economic climate presents challenges for many businesses, having to close a successful one is particularly difficult. Midleton is a progressive and vibrant town filled with wonderful people, and we would love nothing more than to return and serve this community again in the near future.”
The owners say they are actively engaging with Cork County Council to resolve the issue, and they hope to reopen as soon as possible. They said that the closure was necessary to ensure talks remained ‘constructive and productive.’
The spokesperson added: “To everyone who has supported us, thank you. Your encouragement, loyalty, and custom have meant the world to us. We may need your support now more than ever, and we sincerely hope this is not goodbye, but simply see you again soon.”
It follows the closure of another drive-thru coffee spot in the town over the weekend.
The Cars & Coffee Drive Thru has shut its doors in Midleton after making a decision they say was “completely beyond our control.” The popular spot on the Cork Road was known for fresh drinks, sweet treats, and toasties served up quick as you waited in the car. But as of this weekend, they are no longer operating.
