Dermot Bannon has paid tribute to a talented friend who has sadly passed away.
On Wednesday, the news broke that the Dublin-born architect Lorcan O’Herlihy, founder of LOHA architects, had died at the age of 66. According to his studio, Lorcan had passed away from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Dermot was among the first to pay tribute to him and reminisced about their time spent together in the US.

He wrote that he was: ‘So saddened to hear that architect Lorcan O’Herlihy had died.’
‘I had the real privilege to spend time with him on and off camera when we filmed in Jai House in Los Angeles, a home he designed for @richroll and @srimati.
‘He was an incredibly talented architect, warm, kind, generous, and thoughtful. I am thankful that I got to spend time with him.’

He believed that the purpose of architecture was to strengthen our cities and their communities, publishing a book, “I believe Architecture is a Social Act.’
‘Gone too soon, Rest in peace, Lorcan.’
His contemporaries in the industry shared their condolences for Lorcan, with one person writing: ‘We are all in shock. Lorcan was the real deal in every sense- an exceptional architect, teacher, leader, and human being.’
Lorcan had worked with some of the best in the business. In New York, he was a part of the Steven Holl Architects and IM Pei and Partners. This saw the Dublin man working on the famous glass pyramid at the Musée du Louvre.

‘His work made a profound contribution to our city and profession. Rest in peace, Lorcan.’
