Tributes have poured in for a suspected murderer with more than 130 convictions who died in Garda custody.
Lee McDonnell, 34, died earlier this month after he was arrested by armed gardai for allegedly breaching his bail conditions connected to a live case. Funeral details for the father-of-one have also been announced, which says he has been “reunited with his beloved mother Olivia and Nanny Mc”.
McDonnell will be laid to rest on Monday in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ballyfermot before he is taken to Newlands Cross where he will be buried. The death notice said: “Loved always by his daughter Abbie, brothers and sisters, partner, and all his close family and friends.”
One mourner wrote: “RIP Lee you will never be forgotten”. The career criminal was the prime suspect for last month’s attack in Dublin on Thomas Griffin – who later died.
Ballyfermot native Mr Griffin, 32, died in St James’ Hospital after he was found injured by the River Liffey following an alleged attack at the War Memorial Gardens in Islandbridge . McDonnell was also suspected of being the gunman who murdered Gary “the Canary” Carey in August 2022.

Carey, 40, was shot as he came out of the gym of the Hilton Hotel in Kilmainham. He lived for six weeks, before he succumbed to his wounds.
