When it was announced that Galway player Sean Fitzgerald had entered the Love Island villa, it was always going to be interesting to see if his GAA pedigree was mentioned on the ITV reality show.

While Fitzgerald may be a well known figure in Ireland, it was unlikely that any of his fellow islanders would be familiar with his sporting background.

We have now been given a first mention of his sporting background on the show.

It seems that ‘Fitzy’ has mentioned his GAA background in the Love Island villa at some point, with his current partner Lola already excited to see him in action when he returns to Galway.

On Sunday night’s episode, Fitzgerald said he was looking forward to her becoming a GAA ‘WAG’ once they left the show.

Sean: I actually can’t wait for you to come to a Gaelic match and watch it. You get to be a little WAG for the day.

Lola: That’s my dream, it’s literally my favourite thing in the world. I used to love Victoria Beckham when I was young so I was obsessed with being a WAG.

Sean: So you aspire to be her?

Lola: I’ve actually manifested you from my childhood.

Sean: That is such a smell of b******t like.

Lola: I used to literally be obsessed with Irish accents, WAGs, and abs. That is what I wanted the whole way through when I was young, that’s always been a thing. That’s it really.

Sean: That’s it, grand.

On this occasion, Lola was baffled by the way he pronounced a popular holiday destination.

Sean Fitzgerald is currently the bookies favourite to be the male winner on the current season of Love Island.

With Galway having secured their place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals with a win over Westmeath at the weekend, it could be a big few weeks ahead out west.
