A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious crash involving an e-bike in Co Laois, gardaí have said.
Emergency services were called to Stradbally Road in Portlaoise just after 11pm on Saturday.
The boy, in his early teens, was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
He is now receiving treatment at Children’s Health Ireland Temple Street, where he is in a critical condition.
The driver, a man in his late teens, was medically assessed at the scene and gardaí say no other vehicle was involved.
The road has reopened following a forensic examination.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Anyone who might have dashcam footage of the Stradbally Road, from St Peter and Paul’s Cemetery to St Fintan’s Hospital, between 11pm and 11.30pm are asked to make it available to gardaí.
