A Dublin community has rallied support behind a ‘young hero’ who stepped in to help a woman during an assault at a train station.
Gardaí were called to the scene after 11am on Tuesday morning at Clongriffin station in north Dublin after reports of a public order incident.
Shaun Crowe writes on a GoFundMe page that the young man came to the aid of a woman at the station, putting himself in harm’s way to help a stranger, and that he set up the appeal so the community could recognise his bravery.
Writing on Facebook, Shaun names the young man as Cameron McCabe and the woman he helped as Denise O’Neill, saying Cameron “stepped in without hesitation” and that Denise “will never forget what he did for her.”
Shaun says the money will go to Cameron as a thank-you and to cover any costs he incurred, describing him as an example at a time when so many would walk past.
A post on GoFundMe read: “(Tuesday) in Clongriffin, a young Irish lad showed incredible courage when he stepped in to protect my mam’s friend from being attacked at the train station. Without thinking of his own safety, he put himself in harm’s way to help someone in need.
“Acts of bravery like this deserve to be recognised. We’re setting up this fundraiser to show our appreciation and to help cover any costs he may have incurred as a result of his selfless actions, while also letting him know that his courage has not gone unnoticed.
“If you can spare even a few euro, it would mean a lot. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser so more people can see it.
“To the young man who stepped in when others might have walked away: thank you. Your bravery, kindness, and willingness to help a stranger are an example to us all. Every donation and every share is greatly appreciated.”

Gardaí confirmed investigations were ongoing after a “public order incident” in Clongriffin on Tuesday.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí received a report of a public order incident at a premises in Clongriffin, Dublin 13 shortly after 11:10am on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. Investigations are ongoing.”
