Cork man appointed to top role at European energy association

Cork man James Burchill has been appointed vice-president of the European energy association Marcogaz.

The appointment was announced at the Marcogaz general assembly in Warsaw, Poland.

Originally from Carrigtwohill Mr Burchill is a graduate of what is now Munster Technological University (MTU), where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering, in 1991. 

He has since built an extensive career in the energy utility sector, and is currently chief engineer at Gas Networks Ireland.

He will work alongside industry leaders from across Europe to support Marcogaz’s objectives and contribute to discussions on the future of energy networks, gas safety, innovation, and sustainability.

Mr Burchill said he is excited to take up the role, and to have the opportunity to contribute to the important work being undertaken across the European gas infrastructure sector.

“The energy landscape across Europe is evolving rapidly and organisations such as Marcogaz play a vital role in fostering collaboration, sharing expertise, and supporting innovation across the industry.

“This appointment is not only a personal honour, but also an important recognition of the expertise and growing contribution of Gas Networks Ireland to the European energy landscape.”
