The European Commission’s new post-2027 budget plan has been described by Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon as fundamentally changing how farming support operates, while a hard-hitting analysis reveals a nearly insurmountable funding challenge for Ireland.

EU agriculture think tank Farm Europe found Ireland would have to use more than 75pc of its allocation from the new European fund – the Regional and National Partnership Plan (NRPP) – beyond the protected CAP envelope just to maintain the CAP budget at its 2027 level.
