Louise McSharry has opened up about the difficulty of telling her husband Gordon Spierin that she was gay, describing it as the most difficult conversation of her life

Louise McSharry has opened up about the challenge of revealing to her husband that she was gay.
Last year, the broadcaster revealed on her podcast that she was gay and that she and her husband Gordon Spierin had decided to end their marriage.
The couple, who wed in 2015, share two young children and Louise has acknowledged that coming out to Gordon was incredibly difficult.
“I wasn’t really ready to have that conversation with him yet,” the former 2FM presenter told Miriam O’Callaghan on RTE Radio 1. “It was excruciating, it was horrible. It was the most difficult conversation I’ve ever had in my whole life.
“The year afterwards was awful. I cried every day for seven months. It was so, so difficult.”

She added: “It’s funny now, because I’m a few years along; it’s been three and a half years and now I am just so happy to be gay, I feel so good about it.
“But at the time, it felt like such an excruciating truth to live with and not because I had any issue with actually being gay, it wasn’t internalised homophobia. It was just the hurt that I was causing was almost unbearable.”
Fortunately, the former couple have stayed close friends, though Louise confessed it took time to reach that stage, reports RSVP Live.
“We are still such close friends, we parent together and we spend a lot of time together,” she said. “We still socialise together, we are great, great friends. But that was a hard one. It wasn’t easy, it didn’t happen overnight.
“I’m proud of him, I’m proud of me and us, because we did work at it. Our kids were just the number one priority from the get-go.”
Louise and Gordon continued living under the same roof for three years following her conversation with him about being gay, but she purchased her own property last year and moved out in January. It was at that stage they decided to tell their children, who have handled it well.
“They’ve taken it kind of in their stride,” she said.

The podcast host acknowledged that she hasn’t exactly plunged into the dating scene, and there’s been “nothing major” happening on the romantic front, reports RSVP Live.
Louise also discussed her choice to take Mounjaro for weight loss.
“I has really changed my life in so many ways,” she said.
“Beyond the weight, like mentally for my mental health, I almost view it as a mental health medication at this point. It’s just cleared out so much negative thought and it’s given me a feeling of control in my life that I just didn’t have before.”
