Millions of euros were spent on the new active travel infrastructure at Ballybane Castlepark, but according to one councillor, serious issues are already occurring.
Towards the end of last week, Galway experienced a heavy volume of rain in the space of a couple of days, which highlighted major issues with the infrastructure.
That’s according to local councillor Shane Forde.
Posting an image of the new bus stop, Cllr Forde revealed how water is now “lodging on parts of the scheme which has never historically happened before.”
To make matters worse, the water is pooling right in front of a new bus stop.
Cllr Forde will be bringing these matters to the council today.
“The last 2 days with the volume of rain that has arrived have highlighted significant issues regarding the Ballybane -Castlepark Active travel project,” Cllr Forde said.
“Water is now lodging on parts of the scheme which has never historically happened before. The lower part of Castlepark yesterday had water lodged on the road, which was of serious concerns to residents and their homes “.
“Today water is clearly lodging on the Ballybane Road at the Bus Shelter near Tesco.”
“I will be addressing these issues on Monday. Imagine sitting in that Bus Shelter waiting for a bus, and the cars or trucks passing and the amount of surface water so close.”
