Singer Cody Simpson has said he cannot “walk or talk” due to a dislocated knee and damaged vocal cord.

The Australian pop star, known for the songs La Da Dee, Home To Mama and Baby Blue, told his 4.8 million followers on Instagram that he injured his knee during rehearsals for a music video, which meant an operation that was scheduled to help heal a damaged vocal cord had to be postponed.

As a result, the 29-year-old said his upcoming album and live shows will have to be put on hold for the time being, although he promised his fans that he will “be back stronger”.

The singer shared a string of photographs, including one of him on crutches and a video which appears to be the moment he dislocated his knee.

He said: “The universe is serving it to me this year!

“An update on where I’ve been: I’ve been on and off vocal rest for close to 3 months trying to heal a damaged vocal cord.

“We decided to operate to aid the recovery, then I dislocated my knee rehearsing for a new music video and we had to push surgery back to let my knee settle.

“I can’t walk or talk for some time now, and no singing or dancing for months to come.”

The singer said he has been “pushing my body and mind for years now non-stop” and now has to accept the “forced rest”.

He promised fans that despite putting his album and shows on hold, he has work he will be able to share while he is “down for the count”.

“You can’t hold me down! I’ll be back stronger,” he said.

Simpson also revealed he still managed to film the music video where he injured his knee during rehearsals, teasing a pending release.

Prior to his music career, he was a junior swimmer and he trained seriously again in 2019 before being selected as a member of Australia’s swimming team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

He later tried to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics but fell short of making the team.
