While this weekend looks set to be cloudy and dull for many, the return of clear blue skies and scorching temperatures is just days away

Ireland’s recent heatwave may be over, but it seems we don’t have too long to wait until the sizzling conditions return, with temperatures forecast to hit 30C within days.
After a dramatic end to June that saw temperatures climb above 30C in some parts of the country, We have had to deal with far cooler and wetter conditions over the past week.
It has been a largely unsettled start to July, with thunderstorms, hail and heavy downpours sweeping across many area.
However, the glorious summer conditions are just on the horizon, with a forecaster revealing that it “highly likely at this stage we will see another heatwave developing” next week.
In Ireland, the definition of a heatwave is when five or more consecutive Summer Days of 25C are observed at a Met Éireann station.

According to climate scientist Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel, the thermometer looks set to hit 25C at the end of next week, with the sizzling temperatures continuing into next weekend to usher in Ireland’s latest heatwave.
In a message shared with his followers on Friday, Catahl said: “By the time we get into Monday (July 6), we have high pressure just to our south with the final bit of mist and drizzle to our north.
“But as we get into Tuesday we lose that as this large area of high pressure to our southwest pushes up [and] by Wednesday it is sitting directly across the country, we have clear blue skies, sunshine and indeed we have temperatures up to the mid 20s.
“If we continue on, even out to Thursday, Friday and into next weekend, and right the way through the weekend and into the following week, right the way out to the middle of the month, it is a case of pleasant, warm sunshine, at times even becoming hot locally, with temperatures up to the high 20s, perhaps even the low 30s.
“We are concerned about central and western Europe once again – France, northern Spain, western Germany and parts of the south of England – where heatwave conditions are likely to develop.
“And while we are on the topic – five days of 25C is what is required for an Irish heatwave, it is highly likely at this stage we will see another heatwave developing as we go through next week and into the following weekend.”
According to Met Eireann, there will be plenty of dry weather overall this weekend with occasional rain and drizzle, mainly affecting the west and north.
The national forecaster says the best of the sunny spells will be in the south and east at first, but sunshine amounts improving generally early next week.

Saturday – July 4: Often cloudy but largely dry for many today with the best of any sunny spells in the south and east. Patchy light rain, drizzle and mist will affect mainly Connacht and Ulster, with just a few light spots possible elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 15C degrees in the northwest to 23C in the southeast in moderate west to southwest winds, fresher along western and northwestern coasts.
Tonight: Generally cloudy tonight, with just limited clear spells in the south and east. Patchy light rain, drizzle and mist will affect mainly parts of the north and west, along with some hill fog. Lowest temperatures of 12C to 15C in a light to moderate west to southwest breeze.
Sunday – July 5: Cloudy in many parts tomorrow but sunny spells will develop in the south and southeast. Patchy light rain, drizzle and mist will persist in parts of the north and west but it’ll be dry elsewhere. Highest temperatures from 16 degrees in the west and northwest to 24C or 25C in the south and southeast, with light to moderate west to southwest winds.
Sunday Night: Another cloudy night for most. Patchy light rain, drizzle and mist will continue in parts of Ulster and Connacht with mainly dry conditions elsewhere, along with some limited clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 12C to 15C, with light to moderate west to southwest winds.
