Netflix continued its concert overhaul in June by canceling two shows – both of which were canceled after just one season.

Building the Band, a singing contest show, was canceled after just one season following the untimely passing of former One Direction star Liam Payne.

“Featuring a group of uniquely talented singers, Building the Band takes face-to-face encounters out of the musical equation. Instead, the contestants will find their perfect bandmates based on compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit,” Netflix wrote of the show.

That wasn’t the most controversial cancellation, though.

‘The Boroughs’ Canceled After 1 Season, Named Most-Surprising

One of the last Duffer Brothers shows to premiere before their exit for Paramount, The Boroughs delivered stellar reviews from critics, who gave the series a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite strong reviews, Netflix opted to cancel the show after just one season, landing it on ScreenRant’s list of the “most surprising” TV cancellations and earning the streaming giant a harsh message.

“While many factors might have contributed to its cancellation, The Boroughs seems like the perfect example of how Netflix’s increasingly unforgiving approach to green lighting projects based on complex parameters is arguably harming streaming,” ScreenRant wrote.

Those two were just a couple of the many shows canceled by Netflix this year.

The Abandons, Terminator Zero, The Vince Staples Show, Pop The Balloon LIVE, Selling the City, With Love, Meghan, Alice In Borderland, Class, Miss Governor, Strip Law, What’s in the Box?, F1: The Academy, The Boroughs and Building the Band.

While it’s cancelling a number of shows, Netflix also renewed Funny AF With Kevin Hart, The Four Seasons, House of Guinness for new seasons and will conclude Devil May Cry and A Good Girls Guide to Murder with their third and final seasons.
