This week Gardaí arrested a man in possession of a firearm, ammunition, suspected drugs, and other related illegal contraband.

On Monday, Gardaí attached to the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) apprehended and arrested a man who was found in possession of a Glock handgun, magazines containing ammunition, and what is believed to be €23,000 worth of cocaine.

During the course of the operation, Gardaí also seized drug paraphernalia along with other items described as “weaponry”. The nature of these additional items has not been specified.

The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested at the scene following a search carried out by Gardaí. After being charged, he later appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice (CCJ) in Dublin this afternoon.

The firearm seized in the operation has been sent to the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau. This unit is responsible for examining all firearms and ammunition recovered by Gardaí. Its work includes determining whether a weapon is capable of discharge, whether it has been used previously, and carrying out ballistic comparisons that can link firearms to other investigations.

The suspected cocaine has been forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for testing. FSI is the State laboratory that provides scientific services in support of criminal investigations. In drug cases, the agency analyses substances to confirm their identity and value, with certified results forming part of the evidence presented before the courts.

The arrest was made as part of an operation conducted by the South Central Divisional Crime Taskforce, who were carrying out a planned search of a residential property in the Dublin 8 area.

In a statement issued after the arrest, Gardaí confirmed that investigations into the case remain ongoing.

Gardaí have also supplied images of the firearm and ammunition magazines that were seized, included below.
