From Monday 20 July, Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James will be extended to 11am (Monday – Thursday) for the summer to allow more of his young listeners to wake up with him over the summer. Listeners will be treated to an extra thirty minutes of Greg’s humour and energy, guaranteed to give them a boost in the morning.
Rickie, Melvin and Charlie will start at 11am, continuing to bring listeners some of the best entertainment and music as well as some stellar Live Lounge performances across the summer. On Fridays Nat and Vicky will also bring listeners all the best pop songs from the 2000s, ‘10s and ‘20s, presenting Radio 1 Anthems 10am-11am.
From Monday 7 September, the normal Radio 1 schedule will resume with Greg James on Breakfast from 7am to 10:30am.
Greg James says: “I took some last minute days off for a destination wedding I had to go to and I need to make the time up to be honest so it feels like 30 mins a day over the summer is a good plan.”
Aled Haydn Jones, Head of BBC Radio 1, says: “We know our younger listeners’ routines change over the summer, so it only makes sense that we’d adjust things too. I’m delighted that Greg will be bringing listeners an extra 30 minutes of Breakfast throughout the summer.”
In other news, Radio 1 will provide the soundtrack to the hottest summer festivals broadcasting live from Ibiza, Malta and Reading and Leeds, in addition to being live from Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Download, TRNSMT and Parklife over previous weekends. Radio 1 will deliver all the most memorable moments from each festival directly to listeners, from exclusive backstage interviews to headline performances from some of the world’s biggest artists. Listeners can tune in live on BBC Sounds as well as on Radio 1 from Friday to Sunday (1pm – 4pm). Listeners can tune in for festival content across the summer live on Radio 1 as well as on BBC Sounds.
