The body of a man which washed up on the beach at Enniscrone, Co Sligo today is believed to be that of a fisherman who has been missing since last Sunday week.
The man, believed to be a foreign national, fell from a high cliff while shore fishing close to the Dun Briste sea stack, near Downpatrick Head in north Mayo.
The Gráinne Úaile Sub Aqua Club and the Mayo Search and Rescue Unit, along with Ballyglass RNLI Lifeboat and the Sligo-based Coast Guard helicopter had been involved in the lengthy search and rescue operation.
The man’s body has been removed from the scene in Enniscrone and taken to a hospital morgue for a post mortem examination.
