Since I spotted a swishy yellow and black polka dot skirt yesterday, it seems I’m now noticing the motif everywhere. At first, Next seemed to be one of the only high street favourites embracing the trend (alongside tastemaker Damson Madder, whose Lilo dress is the chic reverse version that arguably started it all). But all of a sudden, while browsing M&S’s new in section, I noticed a yellow and black polka dot midi dress that proves this colour combination is here to stay.
The V Neck Frill Sleeve Midi Tea Dress is perhaps one of the best frocks I’ve seen in a while, giving the timeless motif a modern update despite the initially unexpected pairing of hues. On the one hand, yellow is the shade we all expect to see in summer, while black is typically reserved for autumn and winter.

That being said, there’s been an influx of swishy black dresses flying off the shelves despite the ridiculously high temperatures we’ve been facing lately. There’s also a black version of M&S’s polka dot dress, which looks incredibly chic and will keep you effortlessly cool.
