The actor shared a cheeky comment about his new bride while on The Odyssey press tour with costars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. During a “50 Most Searched Questions About The Odyssey” segment with WIRED, Holland read the question, “Did Athena love Odysseus romantically?”
Zendaya plays Athena in Christopher Nolan’s new epic, the divine protector and strategic guide of Damon’s Odysseus, who is trying to return home to his wife, Penelope (Hathaway), and son, Telemachus (Holland), after the Trojan War.
Before any of his castmates could respond to the question about Athena’s feelings for Odysseus, Holland offered up a sweet reply: “No, because she’s married to me.”
“Yep, good answer,” Damon stated, as Hathaway laughed and Pattinson smiled.
Holland and Zendaya secretly tied the knot, he confirmed during an interview with Esquire in June. After rumors swirled about their reported nuptials in March, Holland noted in the interview that the couple’s family members weren’t fooled by fake AI wedding photos circulating online “because they were all there” for the actual ceremony.
“That’s all you’ll get on that,” he concluded.
Holland and Zendaya went public with their relationship in 2021 after meeting on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming. They became engaged in December 2024.
Holland said Zendaya was the one who convinced him to take the role of Telemachus in The Odyssey after she threatened to break up with him if he didn’t.
“We had Spider-Man that was literally scheduled to go the same day that we would start shooting,” Holland explained to PEOPLE in an interview with Damon, Hathaway, and Nolan. “Z said, ‘I’ll leave you if you don’t do The Odyssey.'”
“Yes. Well, thank you to her,” Nolan responded, chuckling.
“Here I am,” Holland added.

Of their experience being in the movie together, Zendaya said it was “the best kind of surprise.”
“I was already so excited and so full of joy,” she told Entertainment Tonight of Holland’s casting. “I couldn’t wait to be able to call him after work and be like, ‘What was it like? Tell me everything!’ You know? So, the dream scenario would be [to] be able to share this with each other and I was lucky that Chris allowed him to come home and tell me that I got the meeting. So, that was special.”

Yes, Holland was, in fact, the one to tell Zendaya that she was up for the role of Athena — and eventually nabbed it.
“I freaked out, I was so grateful,” she said on The Tonight Show, with host Jimmy Fallon adding of Holland, “I love him so much, he’s a great guy.”
“Me too,” Zendaya shared.
“I know you love him more. You love him more,” Fallon responded, smiling.
The Odyssey is now in theaters.
